TCF’s UAE Chapter is one of its global wings, actively engaged in outreach and fundraising activities for the education and social uplift of the marginalised segments of society. This February, the Chapter held a fundraiser at ‘The Address’, Dubai Marina, featuring the internationally acclaimed theatrical play ‘Love Letters’.
Written by well-known contemporary American playwright A.R. Gurney, the play was directed by Hameed Haroon, CEO, Dawn Media Group and was enacted by renowned Pakistani theatre personalities Rehana Saigol and Imran Aslam. Invested into TCF’s mission of empowerment through education, both artists flew in from Karachi and rendered a beautiful performance.
The play takes the form of an epistolary where both narrators sit alongside each other and assume the character of two romantically inclined friends, Andrew Makepeace Ladd 3 (Imran) and Melissa Gardner (Rehana) who share their life correspondence over the course of 50 years.
Over 400 theatre enthusiasts attended the fundraiser, organized to introduce TCF to a new audience and to raise funds for 2 of the Foundation’s schools for 1 year: Marium Saeed Campus in Lahore Cantt. and Ismail Children Campus in Hawkesbay, Karachi. The event was sponsored by various reputable organisations in the UAE and catered to a multicultural audience from the local corporate community. Also present at the evening were esteemed representatives of the International Humanitarian City (IHC), the regulatory authority with whom TCF is registered in Dubai.
The event was organized by the TCF-UAE Ladies Group, an enthusiastic group of TCF volunteers who have been supporting the aforementioned TCF campuses for the past three years. Their dedication towards the TCF cause is truly an inspiration and drives much of the endeavours of the Chapter.
The UAE Chapter, operational since TCF’s inception, has been at the forefront of efforts to reach out to both the Pakistani diaspora and the international community based in the UAE. In doing so, it continues to play an integral role in the development and support of a strong network of donors and supporters.
